Bristol K Type - GHN 198
GHN 189 is a tale of survival, United's oldest double-decker, its chassis built in 1942 from pre-war parts.

Built in 1949, GHN 189 got a quirky makeover in 1960 to become a one-man wonder. Sold, saved, restored, and famous on Heartbeat and Round Tower!

Bristol 'K-Type' - FHN 923
From double-decker to dependable tow truck! In 1956, Bristol FHN 923 was transformed at United’s Central Works in Darlington, swapping passengers for power in a remarkable mid-life makeover.

Delivered new in 1964 and one of just twelve of its kind! With its classic half-cab, open-platform design and rugged Daimler-Gardner engineering AHN 451B is one of a kind.

Bristol LS6G - 304 GHN
Delivered in 1958, 304 GHN featured a mid-mounted Gardner engine and lightweight integral body. Originally seating 34 for luxury tours, it was later refitted for day trips before retiring in 1970.

Bristol LHS - NDL 769G
First registered in 1969, NDL 769G served Newton Aycliffe’s “Newtonian” route until 1984. With its unique Marshall body, it’s a bouncy blast from the past, now proudly preserved in Uniteds Newtonian livery.

New in 1981, Leyland National Mk2 MHN 131W served with United across the North East. Currently under restoration she will soon be restored to original livery. MHN 131W showcases the classic design of Britain’s iconic single-decker.

Leyland Leopard - YSF 87S (Guest Vehicle)
A proud guest at Aycliffe Bus Museum, YSF 87S is a hardworking Leyland Leopard owned by Rob Hughes. Retired from service in Scotland, it’s anything but idle—having famously completed Rust to Rome not once, but twice, in 2023 and 2025!

Optare Vecta - M73WYG
Guest vehicle to Aycliffe Bus Museum is Vecta M73WYG is a 1995 Optare Vecta-bodied bus. Owned by Gavin Miller, It was originally operated by Black Prince, a bus company in Morley. M73 WYG can be seen around the country at many events

Yes! Our museum is fully accessible to visitors with mobility needs. Please note that some areas may have uneven ground, so we recommend taking care while exploring. While our building is wheelchair-friendly, the historic buses themselves are not currently equipped for wheelchair access.

No! Admission to Aycliffe Bus Museum is completely free for all our visitors. Our museum is run entirely by passionate volunteers who dedicate their time for the love of buses and transport heritage.
We do, however, warmly welcome donations. Running a museum is expensive, and every donation helps maintain our vehicles, improve exhibits, and keep the museum a welcoming place for everyone. -
