Volunteer Opportunity – Museum Education & Schools Volunteer
Are you passionate about education, history and inspiring young people?
The Aycliffe & District Bus Preservation Society and Aycliffe Bus Museum are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help develop and deliver educational activities for schools, colleges and community groups.
As a Museum Education & Schools Volunteer, you will play an important role in helping visitors of all ages engage with transport history, engineering, local heritage and the stories behind our unique collection of historic vehicles.
This role is ideal for current or retired teachers, teaching assistants, youth workers, education professionals, students considering a career in education, or anyone with a passion for sharing knowledge and inspiring others.
Key Responsibilities:
Support and deliver educational visits for schools and colleges.
Develop engaging learning activities linked to the curriculum.
Lead guided tours and interactive sessions within the museum.
Help create educational resources, worksheets and activity packs.
Support outreach activities at schools, community events and exhibitions.
Encourage young people to explore subjects such as engineering, transport, local history and heritage conservation.
Assist in developing new learning programmes for lifelong learners and community groups.
What We're Looking For:
An interest in education, history, engineering, transport or heritage.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Confidence working with children, young people and adult learners.
Creativity and enthusiasm for making learning engaging and accessible.
Experience in teaching, training, youth work or education is welcomed but not essential.
A commitment to providing an enjoyable and inclusive learning experience.
