United Enthusiasts Group
The United Enthusiasts Group, also known as the United Enthusiasts Club, is a UK-based organisation for people with a shared interest in the history and heritage of the United Automobile Services bus operator and associated transport heritage. The club brings together members of all ages and backgrounds who are united by their enthusiasm for buses and their historical significance. It caters both to those interested in the ongoing developments around legacy operators such as Arriva North East (which succeeded United Automobile Services) and the historical vehicles and stories associated with the name.
The Club was established in 1988 with initial support from Northumbria Motor Services Limited and later formally became the United Enthusiasts Club following a merger in 2001.
It maintains a social media presence (e.g., a Facebook group) where enthusiasts exchange information, photos and organisation details.
Members participate in gatherings, exchange knowledge and help preserve the legacy of United vehicle operations both in memory and through tangible heritage.
The United Enthusiasts Group and the Aycliffe & District Bus Preservation Society share a long and mutually supportive relationship, rooted in their common passion for UK bus history and preservation:
Regular Collaboration & Shared Events:
Members of the United Enthusiasts Group have participated at Aycliffe’s venue and events, including hosting meetings such as the club’s Annual General Meeting at the Aycliffe Bus Museum.Linked Organisations & Mutual Links:

Many of Aycliffe’s preserved buses — especially classic vehicles once operated by United Automobile Services — are central focal points for both groups’ members and enthusiasts. The restoration and display of these buses help keep the history alive, and United Enthusiasts members often support these efforts through attendance, advocacy, and participation in events.
Together, the United Enthusiasts Group / Club and the Aycliffe & District Bus Preservation Society help sustain appreciation for historic public transport in the North East of England, combining community engagement, preservation expertise and shared enthusiasm for buses and transport history.
